Kulti, Mariana Zapata

“I am the man that I am, and I have done things that I’ve done, to get me to you.”

This is one of my favourite books of all time. I have read it more than once and will probably keep reading it once a year.

“This is what matters. You are my gift, my second chance, and I will cherish you and your dream. I will protect both of you.”

It’s a super slow burn romance, I wouldn’t say they were quite enemies to lovers but there was definite a progression from not liking each other to becoming best friends to lovers. There wasn’t any of that sabotage “I hate you” kind of enemy vibe which was good because I actually can’t stand that, this was more of a dislike but grudging respect towards each other.

“I’ve done so many stupid things that you’ve made me regret—things I hope you will forgive me for and look beyond— but this, waiting a little longer for the love of my life, I can do.”

It all comes to a head in the end with love pouring out from both Sal and Rey, but I felt it the whole way along in both of their actions so for me it didn’t feel sudden but it felt like the gates had finally opened and there was no holding back anymore. It felt more real because of the slow nature of their romance.

“You are the most honest, good thing I’ve ever had. I won’t deny it to anyone.”

Just so good. I can’t even explain. I love all Mariana Zapata books but this one is my favourite hands down. Can’t wait until I can read it again next year!

“My schnecke. My little snail, do you know that’s what it means? It’s a term of affection in my country. My love. My snail. I don’t want to waste more time. I have nothing to hide and neither do you.”
