Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January 2018. It’s all about love of lists, love of literature and bringing bookish people together.
Favourite tropes lets go. I’ve been ready for this for so long. As per usual, most of these are going to be in the romance genre since I can’t get enough of the books that make me smile and give me hope that I won’t be forever alone!
Here are my top ten’s with some of my favourite books for each trope! What are yours? Comment below!
Is this a trope? I feel like it is. It’s my favourite thing ever. The longer the romantic build up the happier I am! Mariana Zapata is the Queen of Slow Burns so pretty much all the best books in this trope are hers…
Friends to Lovers
I love this one so much, for me it just works better than the all too common insta-love trope. I also vibe situations where two people are friends for forever and don’t realise they’re in love until something happens! Probably also feeds into my love of the slow burn if I’m being honest.
Looking after kids
I wouldn’t say I’m particularly crazy about kids myself but I’m down for reading about couples brought together by kids, the more the better! Cute and usually hilarious.
Something about this always has me picking up the book. I think I’ve just read so many I’ve loved that it’s now something I look for! Forbidden, smart, high stakes… yes, yes and yes.
Sign me up for a male lead that grunts more than he talks and is all soft and goes under that hard exterior. Just sign me up.
Fauxmance and fake relationships
Thinly veiled fake relationships are an awesome recipe for laughter and love. They usually results in a web of funny lies and accidental sex and I’m ok with that.
TV Reality Show Books
It’s a little bit of a dream of mine to be on a reality TV show. Not enough to actually apply, but enough to wonder what it might be like behind the scenes so it’s not surprise really to me that I love books based on them. Some of the best include ones based on The Amazing Race and Survivor!
It’s just fun. That’s all there is to it really.
Trying to resist
So much drama and angst in such a delicious way when two people try and resist each other for whatever reasons. Bring it! I prefer this kind of angst way more than love triangles… which is one of my least favourite tropes!
The last but not least trope is anything where the two can’t either for real or arbitrary reasons. After all, love can conquer everything… in fiction!
